This is a journal Entry for my Reflections on what I have learned for Week #7. This unit covered Organization & Power.

During our lecture this week we discussed the hierarchy of business. We followed the rungs of the ladder from the lowest of positions, up to the top. Sad to say we fell pretty close to the bottom. Nothing like bursting the bubble after five years of school just to feel as though you only climbed a few rungs up the ladder. It has felt like a lot more than that!

Additionally, we watched a video presentation dating back to the 1980's with all the funky clothes and hairstyles to go along with it. This presenter discussed the differences between how men and women think and resolve or solve problems. According to the speaker, men are more analytical and women are more emotionally driven.

I honestly didn't like the presentation or the presenter's viewpoints. It seems that were more accurate back in the 80's. I don't believe there is such a difference between men and women as there is a difference between individuals. There are men out there who wear their emotions on their sleeves and there are women who are analytically determined and driven.

As far as my nursing career goes, and my life for that matter, I try very hard to not judge the person by whether they are male or female but rather by their personality type and their background or where they are "coming from". I personally feel that if you take the time to understand the perspective of who you are dealing with, you stand a better chance of working well together. This is how I will continue to incorporate what I have learned into my nursing care and career.
