Leaders as Educators & The Future of Nursing

This week we reviewed our professional portfolio that we have to create during this semester. It is a visual presentation of our accomplishments and background. It will give prospective employers a well-rounded view of us as we are interviewed. I actually completed my in the Associates program but I am adding to and and 'tweeking' it this semester to update it and make it better.

The Future of Nursing

Another area we worked on this week was reading the Future of Nursing articles as assigned. I really like the blog entry I read on nurses and how they do/don't take care of themselves. This is so true. We spend our shift making sure that our patients needs are met including medical, nutritional, and emotional and yet we let most of this go in order to do our job. The article really talked about basic things such as eating a well balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and finding time for internal reflection and spiritual needs.

The second article in the blog posts referred to family care-givers. It basically stated that if we had to pay family care givers, it would cost as much as $470 billion dollars. This figure is equal to what Walmart, a huge corporation, makes in sales in one year (Campaign for Action, 2016).

I also reviewed articles with Modern Healthcare and found another pharmaceutical company drastically increasing the cost of a much needed medication for Leukemia.

I find this class really provides me with the most useful information. So many of our classes cover discussions and topics that are good but not necessary information that I can utilize. Even though we have what so many call 'busy work' in this Leadership class, I find that the articles and information that I have to read keeps me up-to-date on current situations that directly affect me or the patients that I care for.
